Fall must be the time for road trips (or perhaps in the case of this moose, to seek a mate). A heads up about an upcoming Nature special televised on PBS next week. Born in the Rockies airs at 7 pm on November 10 and the second part on November 17. This two-hour documentary features newborn wildlife up and down the Rocky Mountain chain. The cinematography by Joe Pontecorvo is stunning. I know because I was a technical advisor for part of the film and have reviewed some of the advance footage. Uma Thurman narrates. I highly recommend tuning in.
I haven’t posted about CWD for some time. This article in the Montana Free Press prompted me to write a brief update. In my home state of Montana, where CWD was first documented in 2017, the disease has now been found in white-tailed deer, mule deer, elk, and moose.
